Raspberry Pi Camera Module

Leading Raspberry Pi Camera Module Manufacturer

The Raspberry Pi HD Camera can be connected to any Raspberry Pi or Compute Module, allowing you to capture HD video and still photos. Adding a camera to a Raspberry Pi opens up entirely new project opportunities, and hobbyists have used the module to create impressive Pi robots with live video streaming, wildlife night monitors, homemade cameras, and more.

There are now 4 versions of the official Raspberry Pi camera module, as well as a range of aftermarket options. This can be a little confusing for new Raspberry Pi users, so let's take a look at the features that are available.

The original Raspberry Pi camera module was released in May 2013. The board features a 5-megapixel OmniVision OV5647 sensor with a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels, designed for daytime use.

In October of the same year, the Raspberry Pi Foundation released a new infrared version of the camera module board called the 'NoIR' module. This particular model is designed for night photography and other infrared experiments, such as watching plant photosynthesis. However, during the day the image will be purplish.

In April 2016, the Raspberry Pi Foundation released version 2 of the popular standard camera module, and since the OmniVision OV5647 sensor was no longer in production, the foundation switched to hardware based on the Sony IMX219 model. Everything else seems to remain the same - same dimensions, same hole layout, and same code commands to use them.

Released in 2020, HQ is 12 megapixels. Unlike the first two out-of-the-box camera modules, the HQ requires an additional lens to be used.

The Raspberry Pi camera module reduces image contamination such as fixed pattern noise and smearing. It also has automatic control functions such as exposure control, white balance and brightness detection.

Features and Benefits:
  • HD images
  • High sensitivity
  • Low power consumption
  • High data transfer capability
At present, the Raspberry PI camera can be customized, and infrared fill light can be added according to the actual application environment to support infrared night vision. Support focusing, the camera can be adjusted according to the distance of the shooting object. It should be noted that the regular camera can shoot accurate colors during the day, but it cannot be used for shooting at night, and it will be completely dark. In addition, the official night vision and custom night vision need to be filled with infrared fill light when shooting late at night (without any external light source).
